Paper Wasp on Nest
One of the things that has troubled me with studio macro photography is losing a sense of a natural environment with my subjects. But I finally got something with this one! One day I had to spray a wasp nest near my garage door. A week or so later I noticed that one wasp had somehow clung to the nest. Over a month later it was still there and I was doubtful the wasp would be a viable subject once I finally got around to removing the nest. So I finally did and I found the wasp to be in surprisingly fantastic shape! Actually, this was probably one of the cleanest specimens I've ever gathered. I had also recently experimented with several wrapping papers for backgrounds where I found neat gradients forming across the lines printed on the paper. I went back to one of my favorite prints and came up with this background, which I'm very happy with.
