Of all the garden spiders I've seen I have never seen a male and female sharing a web. Add to that I had never taken the time to determine which was the male and which was the female. Surprisingly to me the female is the prettier of the two (if a spider could actually be called 'pretty') and the male is rather brown and bland. That surprised me since I typically find the males to be more attractive in many other forms of wildlife. From what little I've read, I think there is courtship involved here, if it hasn't already happened.
